Mycena flos-nivium is a rare fungi that is included in the Red List of fungi (Holec & Beran, 2006) as a critically endangered species. Our colleague Martin B., an expert in gender Mycena, found it near Pilsen several years ago. The locality has been carefully watched every year since his finding. This year, the fruitbodies appeared at the same time like last year. It is positive that its mycelium seems to be expanding and even the initial substrate already disappeared over past years, this rare fungi may prevail even in future at the locality.
This Mycena is typically spring fungi that grows on decaying woods and cones of conifers. It may be easily confused with other similar fungi like Mycena strobilicola that grows at the same time on cones, however thanks to its different nitric odour can be easily distinguished in the field.
