Plant diversity of Gabon is among the richest in the world, and the richest in tropical Africa. The Herbier National du Gabon and the Wageningen branch of the National Herbarium of the Netherlands cooperated with botanists from six other leading taxonomic institutes to produce the present complete inventory of Gabon's vascular plants. The checklist, based on data related to more than 65,000 herbarium specimens, gives primary information on the more than 4,700 vascular plant species reported from Gabon, 13% of which is endemic or near endemic. Thebook is of great interest for anyone interested in afrotropical biodiversity and its conservation.
